Catalana d'Iniciatives focuses its attention on dynamic and strategic business projects that will contribute to the economic progress of our country. We offer you a financial alternative such as private equity as well as our experience gathered in more than two decades.
In the current global economic recession situation, venture capital must prove its management capacity and the advantage of its business model, contributing to a change of scenario, thanks to flexible and imaginative actions. This is how private equity firms can contribute to the development, professionalism, internationalization and growth of our country's business fabric of our country, as we have already done in the recent past.
My particular belief is that the disappearance of hyper-leveraging should not be a threat to this sector, but quite the opposite, since it eliminates a major distortion and allows venture capital to fulfil its core business: buying companies, endowing them with good management, developing projects for business growth and creating value for the shareholders and the company.
Among some of the prime investments of Catalana d'Iniciatives, those offering the afore-mentioned added value are to be noted, such as Development Capital and Business Concentration or BUILD UP projects, particularly in companies from emerging -although very fragmented- sectors such as E-Diagnostic, a Spanish group leader in the field of online medical diagnosis, and Soundub or Tourline Express processes, which have led to the first group in the dubbing industry on the Iberian Peninsula and one of the major independent messaging operators, respectively. This provides a more comprehensive view and the assignment of resources and capacities required in today's global world, and allows to develop stronger and more competitive companies.
Thus, since its inception, Catalana d'Iniciatives has generated an investment of some EUR 700 million in 130 Spanish companies.
Our investment philosophy is geared toward a capital injection ranging from 6 to 12 million euros in companies whose value is 15 - 60 million euros. This boosts the development of Spanish companies that want to expand and for this, we choose to take significant shareholding positions, which allow for a more active involvement in the management of the companies we invest in.
Thus, the current situation is ideal for Catalana d'Iniciatives: we operate in the middle market (not in large operations requiring excessive bank financing) and we are also a clear example of well-run public-private partnership, which is reflected in our shareholder structure and in the development of our projects.
It is now, in these complex times of crisis, that Catalana d'Iniciatives maximizes its significance as a financial instrument. Firstly, to help develop our business fabric, and also because it is at such times when one can participate in companies for a more reasonable price and as a result, it is when Catalana d'Iniciatives may be able to offer an adequate return to its shareholders.
